Brandon Spikes: 'Feel like I'm 18'

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- New England Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes is putting together the best season of his three-year career. Through eight games, he has 50 tackles, three forced fumbles, and one sack.

Some concern was raised on Sunday in London when Spikes did not finish the game. It was unclear whether he was dealing with an injury.

The 25-year old put that talk to rest on Thursday, when he gave a glowing review of his own health.

"Honestly, this is the best I've ever felt in my life. I feel like I'm 18," Spikes said. "I can go play this week, or next week. I feel great, man."

While defensive ends Rob Ninkovich and Chandler Jones have put pressure on quarterbacks, Spikes has been a big part of the team's impressive run defense, ranked eighth in the NFL.

In addition to forcing three key fumbles, Spikes has also brought a physical element to the defense. Even with a bye week to rest up, Spikes said he feels fine and wants more football, not less.

"Seriously, I'm a physical guy. I'm a big, boney guy. I don't really feel any of it," Spikes said. "It's the bye (week), I'm going to enjoy it, but at the same time, I'm trying to get the edge."

The Patriots will practice once during the bye week, on Thursday, before returning next week to prepare for the Buffalo Bills.

"I just think we have a ways to go. It's like a roller-coaster," Spikes said. "We have some things that need to get done."
