New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is not expected to play in Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills, reports ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, citing a source familiar with Hernandez's ankle injury.
If Hernandez sits out, it will mark his second straight missed game after suffering a setback in his recovery, according to ESPN senior NFL writer John Clayton. Hernandez did not travel with the team for the Week 8 game in London.
Without Hernandez, the Patriots activated veteran tight end Visanthe Shiancoe from injured reserve/designated to return, ahead of next Tuesday's deadline.
Shiancoe, who has been sidelined since early in training camp, has practiced for the past two weeks and should be ready to step into a role within the Patriots' tight end-heavy offense on Sunday.
