"If his first game is any indication, that's not bad," Ryan said Tuesday. "Get an interception for a touchdown, so I really thought he should have waited until after we played to play this young man."
In part of his glowing review of Talib, Ryan hinted that the Jets will avoid throwing at Talib if the Patriots are playing man-to-man coverage.
"We'll have to see what they do schematically. Generally if it's just straight man coverage you'll probably go away from him," Ryan said. "They're very multiple with what they do defensively, so we'll just have to see how they're playing and we'll see if coverage or whatever dictates that you go there."
The Patriots added Talib in a deadline-day trade three weeks ago, and he made his debut in Sunday's win over the Indianapolis Colts, returning an interception for a touchdown.
"As if they needed another great player," Ryan said. "Obviously, (Patriots coach Bill) Belichick does a lot of things on defense to take advantage of players' talent, so it will be very interesting to see what he does with Talib."
