Schefter: McDaniels not likely in Cleveland

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- It's the final day of the regular season, and the NFL's coaching carousel will be heating up in the coming days, with several jobs expected to open.

However, New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is not expected to be a candidate for the Cleveland Browns, where coach Pat Shurmur is expected to be fired, reports ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Schefter reports that the Browns will instead make a "major run" at former Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien, who just completed his first season at the helm for Penn State, or current Oregon coach Chip Kelly.

In addition, Schefter reports that another former Patriots staffer, Arizona Cardinals director of player personnel Jason Licht will be a top candidate to replace Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Gene Smith, who is expected to be fired. Licht served as pro personnel director in New England last season.
