Belichick: Parcells an all-time great

Bill Belichick offered his congratulations to Bill Parcells, who was elected to the Hall of Fame on Saturday.

Belichick, who won two Super Bowls with the Giants as Parcells' defensive coordinator, issued this statement through the Patriots:

"Bill Parcells has been thought of as one of the all-time greats for a

long time, so it is with great pride that we can officially refer to him

as a Hall of Famer. He deserves all the recognition he is getting and

for his career to be celebrated in Canton forever."

Parcells was Giants head coach from 1983-90, retiring after winning his second Lombardi Trophy.

He returned to the NFL as Patriots coach in 1993, taking New England to Super Bowl XXI, a 35-21 loss to the Packers.

Parcells coached the Jets for three seasons (1997-99) and the Cowboys for four (2003-06) and had winning records for both, but he never made it back to the Super Bowl.

He joined the Dolphins as executive vice president of football operations after Miami's 1-15 2007 season.
