Opposing view: Patriots primed to thrive

Where some see trash, others see a treasure.

That might be the best way to explain the contrast of opinion between ESPN.com Senior NFL writer Jeffri Chadiha and CBS Sports Insider Jason La Canfora.

On the same day that Chadiha opined about the Patriots' glory days coming to an end, La Canfora pegged them (along with the 49ers) as a rich team getting richer.

Writes La Canfora: "New England, again, with a historically great quarterback counting about half as much against the cap as he should over the next five years, is also positioned to begin extending some of its emerging young talent on defense -- Devin McCourty, Brandon Spikes and Rob Ninkovich, to name a few. Let's just say, for example, the Patriots get [Wes] Welker and [Sebastian] Vollmer signed to multiyear deals, grab [Mike] Wallace and package a few picks to move up and get one of the stud pass rushers in this draft, a year after nabbing Chandler Jones. Tell me that doesn't cause the rest of the AFC to shiver just a bit, given the talent base that already exists?"

Interesting to read such differing opinions of the same team, on the same day.
