Former Jets and Seahawks running back/returner Leon Washington is visiting the Patriots today, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Washington, who was released by the Seahawks after Seattle acquired Percy Harvin in a trade, could add a spark to the Patriots' return game.
The Patriots have a multi-layered background with the 5-foot-8, 203-pound Washington from competing against him while he was with the Jets (2006-2009), and because current assistant coach Brian Daboll was on the Jets' staff from 2006-2008.
The 30-year-old Washington makes his primary impact as a returner -- he had 27 kickoff returns for 784 yards last season, to go along with 41 punt returns for 356 yards. On offense, he totaled 23 carries for 83 yards last season, adding four receptions for 31 yards.
Washington was the NFC's Pro Bowl kickoff returner last season. He's returned eight kickoffs for touchdowns in his career, which ties the NFL all-time record.
