The Patriots have officially signed wide receiver Lavelle Hawkins, as was reported by Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean earlier today. Terms of the contract were not disclosed, although Wyatt reported it is a two-year deal.
Hawkins adds another young receiver to what has become an area of interest this offseason. He's just 26 years old and has 71 career catches in five pro seasons, all with the Titans.
We'll learn more about Hawkins as the offseason continues, but the brief scouting report is that he's been a slot receiver during much of his time with Tennessee. He has good quick-twitch movements and quickness.
His best season came in 2011, when he played 16 games and caught 47 passes for 470 yards and a touchdown.
The Patriots now have 12 wide receivers on their roster, and stand at 89 total players on the active roster, one shy of the allowable limit.
