The Patriots have enjoyed a sustained string of success over the past decade-plus, one that has seen the team appear in five Super Bowls, winning three. That, along with strong direction from team owner Robert Kraft and a dedicated fan base, has helped the franchise become one of the most visible in the NFL, and also one of the most valuable.
In fact, the Patriots are not only one of the most valuable NFL franchises, they're also among the most valuable sports franchises in the world, according to Forbes.
In a list of the 50 most valuable sports franchises for 2013, the Patriots checked in at number six overall, trailing only the Dallas Cowboys among NFL teams. Forbes estimates the value of the franchise to be $1.635 billion, a skyrocketed figure from the $175 million that Kraft paid to originally purchase the team back in 1994.
The team has sold out each home game since, and Gillette Stadium was constructed in time for the open of the 2002 regular season.
