FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The Patriots and Buccaneers kicked off their week of joint practices on Tuesday underneath a light but steady rain.
The Patriots were without a top defensive player, as linebacker Brandon Spikes missed his first practice of training camp. It is unclear why Spikes was unable to participate.
Offensive lineman Marcus Cannon, who has been sidelined after a strong start to training camp, was present on the practice field, although didn't take part in full-team drills.
The practice was conducted in a very similar manner to the first day of joint practices with the Eagles last week, with the two congregating for various drills, including special teams work on all four core phases.
Like he did against the Eagles last week, quarterback Tom Brady stood out during passing drills, showing precision and accuracy against the Bucs secondary, which was without Darrelle Revis during team drills.
The teams will continue their joint work Wednesday with the second of three practices, scheduled to take place in the afternoon.
