Source: Patriots release WR Jenkins

The New England Patriots have released veteran wide receiver Michael Jenkins, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Jenkins signed with the Patriots in March after playing each of the last two seasons for the Minnesota Vikings. He had 40 catches for 449 yards and two touchdowns last season.

Jenkins, originally a first-round pick by the Atlanta Falcons in 2004, was competing for a roster spot in New England. Danny Amendola and rookie Aaron Dobson are atop the club's depth chart at wide receiver.

Jenkins, 31, has 354 receptions for 4,427 yards and 25 TDs in his career.
