The Patriots' home opener, against the New York Jets on Thursday night, will be broadcast on NFL Network. For those in the Boston and surrounding area, the game will also be broadcast on WCVB-TV (Ch. 5).
Brad Nessler (play-by-play) and Mike Mayock (analysis) will be on the call, with Alex Flanagan reporting on the sideline.
"I think it got more interesting [Sunday]. I don't think anybody thought Geno Smith was going to play that well," Nessler said on a media conference call Monday.
Meanwhile, the Patriots struggled to squeak by the Bills.
"With youth comes growing pains," Mayock said of the Patriots' revamped receiving corps. "I think what they are betting on is that over time, these guys are younger, quicker, faster and will develop into better playmakers down the road. You might lose a little bit early. I thought there were several disconnects between [Tom] Brady and his young receivers; that's something you're going to have to live with for a little time.
"Now, when Rob [Gronkowski] gets back, I think a lot of that gets better more quickly because he'll draw so much coverage. But I think [Kenbrell] Thompkins has an ability to separate and get open. [Aaron] Dobson, who didn't play [Sunday], I think has bigtime ability and size.
"Tom Brady is the kind of guy that can get them a win like [Sunday] when they had all they could handle and more, but they still got the win, and [can] try to allow these guys time to develop."
