Patriots work out two defensive tackles

The Patriots have two open roster spots as things currently stand, and it would make sense if one of those is used on a defensive tackle to help replace Vince Wilfork, who was placed on injured reserve Thursday.

The team has a pair of in-house options to promote from the practice squad in A.J. Francis and Marcus Forston, but they also have looked at outside options as they had a pair of defensive tackles in for a tryout on Friday: DaJohn Harris and Marcus Dixon.

Dixon, originally a 2008 undrafted free agent of the Cowboys, has 21 career tackles and 2.5 sacks. He was most recently with the Chiefs this past offseason. Harris was originally signed as an undrafted free agent of the Titans in 2012. He has not registered any pro stats.

The Patriots have veteran Tommy Kelly and rookies Joe Vellano and Chris Jones currently on the the 53-man roster at the position.
