Checking in on the ratings game

In August, Red Sox president Larry Lucchino told "Boston Herald Radio" that he views the Patriots as one of his team's rivals. He might have been referring to the TV ratings battle, as football ratings have generally trumped baseball in recent years.

Rewind to about 10 years ago, according to media critics who follows these numbers closely, and it was the other way around.

Here are the ratings from the weekend for the Boston market:

Patriots-Saints: 35.1

Fox's OT football post-game show: 24.2

Red Sox-Tigers, Game One: 21.8

Red Sox-Tigers, Game Two: 20.6

Jets-Steelers: 9.0
