FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- New England Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month, which highlights how he's in the midst of the best season of his eight-year career.
Gostkowski earned the honor for the month of October, but his overall body of work has put him in position to potentially represent the AFC in the Pro Bowl. This marks the second time he has earned AFC Special Teams Player of the Month. The first came in October of 2008.
His 34 touchbacks are tied for second in the NFL, and he is 20 of 21 on field goals. The 20 field goals are an NFL-high, and his 77 points overall rank him second behind only Denver's Matt Prater (79).
Gostkowski also set a career high with a 54-yard field goal on Oct. 13 against the New Orleans Saints.
