FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Several members of the World Series champion Boston Red Sox were on hand for a pregame ceremony in the moments leading up to the New England Patriots Week 9 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Starting pitcher Jon Lester, who won two games for the Red Sox in the World Series, carried the World Series trophy out of the tunnel used for player introductions and was met with a roar of applause from the Gillette Stadium crowd. He also served as an honorary captain for the game.
Other players in attendance were outfielder Shane Victorino, catcher David Ross, infielder John McDonald, shortstop Stephen Drew, pitchers Clay Buchholz and Matt Thornton, as well as outfielder Jonny Gomes, who sprinted out of the tunnel and was met with raucous cheers. Team owner John Henry and third base coach Brian Butterfield were among members of the organization in attendance.
