ORLANDO, Fla. -- One item of business that is expected to be taken care of here at the NFL's annual meeting is the awarding of compensatory draft picks.
In short, compensatory draft picks are awarded by the league based on a complex formula determining if a team has a net loss in free agency from the prior year (salary and playing time are part of the formula).
For the Patriots, that means factoring in players who signed elsewhere such as wide receiver Wes Welker, safety Patrick Chung, offensive lineman Donald Thomas and running back Danny Woodhead, and then measuring it against compensatory free agents signed, such as receiver Danny Amendola and offensive lineman Will Svitek.
Jimmy Kempski of Philly.com projects that the Patriots will receive an additional sixth-round selection this year.
Maybe it comes in at No. 199.
