FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Patriots second-round draft choice Jimmy Garoppolo won't be present for Friday's organized team activity, as he is among a group of rookies required to attend the NFL Players Association Rookie Premiere event in Hollywood, California.
As of two weeks ago, Garoppolo was one of 40 rookies committed to the event. Patriots undrafted free-agent tight end Asa Watson, of NC State, was also part of that list.
Most of the rookies at the event are offensive skill-position players, and Patriots first-round draft pick Dominique Easley is not part of the group.
The Patriots' selection of Garoppolo in the late second round (62nd overall) has created a buzz, which had owner Robert Kraft answering questions Thursday night about Tom Brady's future. With Garoppolo not present for Friday's organized team activity (11 a.m.-12:45 p.m. ET), the next chance to see him on the field will be June 5, which is the next OTA opened to media members.
In addition to Garoppolo, fourth-round draft choice Cameron Fleming, an offensive tackle from Stanford, won't be present today. League rules prohibit him from practicing until his class graduates.
