Numberless jerseys for Patriots

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Continuing a theme from the past few seasons, New England Patriots players are taking part in voluntary organized team activities without numbers on their jerseys.

A brilliant tactic by Bill Belichick to make things tougher on the media to identify players?

Not exactly, as this is something Belichick instituted a few years ago as a way for players to get to know each other better, and also enhance on-field communication.

Former Patriots assistant Bill O'Brien, now in his first season as Houston Texans head coach, has done something similar with his team this offseason.

While Texans players had numbers on their jerseys at practice, they did not have logos on their helmets, or names on the back of their jerseys.
