Gronk not taking part in joint practice

RICHMOND, Va. -- New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is not participating in joint practices with the Washington Redskins, which kicked off Monday morning.

In fact, he did not even make the trip to Virginia.

Gronkowski has taken part in only individual drills through the first eight practices of training camp, and with joint practices featuring more full-team work against Washington, it likely explains Gronkowski's absence.

Gronkowski has been cleared to play, according to coach Bill Belichick, making his comeback more of a football decision than a medical decision, and the Patriots continue to bring him along slowly.

The Patriots and Redskins are holding three days of joint practices in advance of their preseason opener on Thursday, with Monday and Tuesday in full pads and Wednesday not in full pads.
