New England Revolution forward Taylor Twellman has scheduled a press conference for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Gillette Stadium and is expected to announce his retirement.
Twellman, 30, has suffered several concussions in his career and has been sidelined for more than a year due to lingering effects. He had been hoping to make a comeback. His last game was in June 2009 against the New York Red Bulls.
Twellman, who was drafted by the Revs in the first round of the 2002 SuperDraft, had 101 goals in his eight-year career and was the fifth player in MLS history to score 100 goals. He is a five-time MLS All-Star.
