Theo backs Tito: 'No disconnect'

NEW YORK -- Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein said there is "no disconnect" between the GM and manager Terry Francona.

"There's no disconnect,'' Epstein wrote in a e-mail, responding to a question raised by a radio interview Thursday in which veteran baseball analyst Peter Gammons said he sensed "an increasing disconnect" between Epstein and Francona.

"We've had each other's support and admiration for eight years and that doesn't stop because the team has had a very difficult month so far.''

The Red Sox, 5-16 this month, hold a two-game lead in the wild card standings and are in New York for the first of three against the Yankees Friday night.
