The Red Sox try to complete not only a sweep of the White Sox, but a sweep of their seven-game road trip today in Chicago.
Josh Beckett get the start, with Kelly Shoppach again serving as his batterymate. Bobby Valentine stopped short of saying Shoppach would be Beckett's personal catcher going forward, initially telling reporters before the game that Shoppach was playing because it's his birthday.
"I like all the pairings," Valentine told reporters in Chicago. "But with Beckett and Kelly, they have a little something going. I’m not writing home about it yet."
Shoppach, who turns 32, has caught each of Beckett's last three starts, during which Beckett has a 2.57 ERA over 21 innings. In Beckett's first start, with Jarrod Saltalamacchia behind the plate, Beckett gave up five home runs in a 10-0 loss to the Tigers.
