Sox acquire Valencia for Pineda

BOSTON -- The Red Sox made a trade with the Minnesota Twins on Sunday, acquiring third baseman Danny Valencia in exchange for outfielder Jeremias Pineda.

Valencia, 27, has been optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket. He has hit .260 with 52 doubles, four triples, 24 home runs and 129 RBIs in 273 major league games with the Twins over the last three seasons. He’s hitting .198 with six doubles, one triple, two homers and 17 RBIs in 34 games this season for Minnesota. He also played 69 games for Triple-A Rochester this season, with a .250 average.

Pineda, 21, posted a .421 average (56-for-133) with nine doubles, three triples, 22 RBIs and 14 stolen bases in 36 games for GCL Red Sox this season.
