Olney: Bobby V can't fix this

Buster Olney says he wasn't surprised about the meeting between Red Sox players and team ownership, and that there's little manager Bobby Valentine can do to gain the respect and following of his clubhouse at this point in the season.

"There's not a lot that he can do at this point, because it feels like his reputation with the players is cemented," Olney said.

He added that in the last few weeks Valentine has made a greater effort to communicate with the players, "but at this point, when you have players, two-thirds of the roster, going to ownership and expressing unhappiness with the manager, that there probably isn't going to be a great opportunity for change here for Bobby as they go through the day-to-day grind of trying to make the playoffs."
