Red Sox president Larry Lucchino, who the day before left no doubt manager Bobby Valentine would survive the rest of the season in Boston, on Friday declined to answer whether the skipper would be back for 2013.
In an interview on ESPN Radio New York (podcast HERE), Lucchino was asked what he needed to see from the Red Sox in the final 43 games of the season to be comfortable bringing Valentine back for next season.
“I’m not going to address the last part of the question, but I will say that what we hope to see for the remainder of this year is more W’s. This is a results-oriented industry we’re all in, we all share sense of accountability or responsibility for the record of this team.”
After this season, Valentine has one year remaining on a two-year deal.
