Ellsbury out again with undisclosed injury

BOSTON -- There's still no update on the undisclosed injury that's keeping Boston Red Sox center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury out of the starting lineup for the third consecutive game.

When asked how long Ellsbury would be out of the lineup, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine wasn't sure.

"Oh, gosh, I have no idea," Valentine said. "Probably be conservative, cautious. But when he's ready to play, we'd love to have him play."

Due to a shoulder injury at the start of the season, Ellsbury has been limited to only 70 games. He's hitting .277 with four homers and 26 RBIs and 14 stolen bases.

The Red Sox will miss the postseason for the third consecutive year, but even if the club was fighting for a playoff berth, Valentine again did not know if this is the type of injury Ellsbury would be able to play with.

"I'm not sure. It's something that he wants to be cautious with," Valentine said.
