Farrell: 'Eager to get on the field'

BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox held their annual organizational preparatory meetings for spring training earlier this week at Fenway Park, and new manager John Farrell said he was pleased with the team’s offseason work.

"It was almost maybe a re-centering to a certain point as we go into this upcoming season, but above and beyond all, everyone’s eager to get on the field down in Fort Myers," Farrell said.

With the offseason blueprint nearly complete and spring training only a few weeks away, Farrell said he likes his team.

“Balanced. Professional. Successful individual track records,” explained Farrell when asked about his roster. “Guys who have come from winning and playoff teams, World Series teams, and to bring those ingredients, those individuals here, we’re looking forward to bringing everyone together in spring training.

“We have a pretty good challenge ahead of us with nine new players projected on a 25-man roster -- that’s a lot to integrate and to understand that we’re coming together and sacrificing for one another for the team’s approach. That’s where, I think, the people above and beyond the talents that they are, have that reputation.”
