Morning report: Red team, blue team

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Red state, blue state.

But it has nothing to do with politics.

The Red Sox have divided the roster into a red team and a blue team for spring training work, which is how bench coach Torey Lovullo mapped it out.

Here’s the breakdown:

Red team: David Ortiz, Mike Napoli, Lyle Overbay, Dustin Pedroia, Stephen Drew, Will Middlebrooks, Pedro Ciriaco, Brock Holt, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, David Ross, Ryan Lavarnway, Jonny Gomes, Jacoby Ellsbury, Shane Victorino, Daniel Nava, Mitch Maier, Ryan Sweeney.

Blue team: Mark Hamilton, Mauro Gomez, Jonathan Diaz, Jose Iglesias, Xander Bogaerts, Drew Sutton, Deven Marrero, Christian Vazquez, Daniel Butler, Jeremy Hazelbaker, Justin Henry, Jackie Bradley Jr., Juan Carlos Linares, Alex Hassan.

Saturday is the first day of live BP. Joel Hanrahan, Alex Wilson, Anthony Carter, Daniel Bard and Andrew Bailey will be on Field 3; Koji Uehara, Junichi Tazawa, Franklin Morales, Pedro Beato and Chris Carpenter will be on Field 4; and Oscar Villareal, Andrew Miller, Terry Doyle and Jose De La Torre will be on Field 5.

Hitting groups:

* Pedroia, Ellsbury, Napoli and Drew.

* Gomes, Ortiz, Overbay and I name I scrawled so badly into my notebook I can’t read it.

* Sweeney, Saltalamacchia and Ross.

Infielders had their mental skills class this morning. Defense and bunt plays are on the agenda on the field.
