Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox manager Gary DiSarcina was hired by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Tuesday to serve as their third-base coach.
DiSarcina, 45, spent one season as PawSox manager and helped the club win the International League North division title in 2013. The Billerica, Mass., native played 12 seasons in the big leagues for the Angels. After his career ended in 2002 as a player with the PawSox, the Red Sox hired him. He eventually went on to manage the Class A Lowell Spinners for three seasons (2007 to 2009).
He returned to the Angels' organization in 2010 as a minor league field coordinator and was promoted to special assistant to Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto.
The Red Sox rehired DiSarcina last offseason for the Pawtucket job after former manager Arnie Beyeler was promoted to be John Farrell’s first-base coach with the Red Sox.
