BOSTON -- The effects of Tropical Storm Arthur weren’t only felt at the major league level for the Red Sox on Friday.
As a result of the inclement weather, Mike Carp’s rehab assignment will move to Portland Friday night, where he’ll join the Double-A Sea Dogs.
In five games rehabbing with Triple-A Pawtucket, Carp (foot) went 1-for-13 while seeing time at first in three games.
Third baseman Will Middlebrooks (finger) will remain with Pawtucket in Syracuse over the weekend. Since restarting his rehab on Tuesday following recurring swelling in his finger that kept him out for a week, Middlebrooks has gone 2-for-6 with a home run and a triple in two games. He’s served as designated hitter in both games.
Manager John Farrell said Tuesday that the team would still like to see Middlebrooks get reps in left field; however, his progress will determine when that will happen.
“While the throwing is improving, and as are the reps at third base pregame, we’re not at that point yet,” Farrell said Friday.
Meanwhile, outfielder Shane Victorino (back) has ramped up baseball activities, particularly with running and agility work. Victorino last appeared in a game with Pawtucket on June 24.
