Sox recall reliever Castro, option Reddick

The Boston Red Sox on Friday afternoon recalled lefthanded pitcher Fabio Castro from Triple-A Pawtucket to replace outfielder Josh Reddick, who was optioned back to Pawtucket after Thursday night’s game.

The move likely means that J.D. Drew, who missed four games with a hamstring injury before pinch hitting Thursday night, is ready to return to the lineup.

Castro will be active for Friday night’s game in San Francisco.

The Sox arrived in San Francisco at 4 a.m. Friday after a 10-inning win at Colorado that lasted nearly five hours and saw Terry Francona use his entire bullpen, save lefty Dustin Richardson.

Castro, in his second big league stint of 2010 but without an appearance, was 3-5 with a 6.65 ERA in 43 1/3 innings for the PawSox.
