Reliever Hembree gets turn with Sox

PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- The Red Sox have recalled pitcher Heath Hembree from Triple-A Pawtucket and the right-handed reliever will join the team in St. Louis for Tuesday’s game.

The Red Sox acquired Hembree, 25, along with left-hander Edwin Escobar from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for starter Jake Peavy last week. Hembree made his PawSox debut on July 30 and earned the save against Syracuse.

The Red Sox had called up starter Steven Wright for Sunday’s game against the New York Yankees in the event they needed the knuckleballer for long relief. He was optioned back to Pawtucket after the game, and Hembree was called up.

Hembree was 1-3 with a 3.89 ERA and had converted 18 saves in 21 chances in 41 games for Triple-A Fresno when the Red Sox acquired him.
