Sox, Astros cancel March 31 game

HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox have cancelled the second of two exhibition games in March because MLB rules prohibit the playing of exhibition games when the regular season has started.

The cancelled game was set for March 31 at Minute Maid Park, the day that 12 teams begin the regular season.

The teams will still meet for one game on March 30 and the Red Sox will return to Houston for a three-game series in July.

Houston opens the regular season on April 1 at Philadelphia and Boston opens the same day at Texas.
