Doubleheader scheduled for Wednesday

BOSTON -- Winners of three in a row, the Boston Red Sox were hoping to continue their good fortune against the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night at Fenway Park, but Mother Nature had a different plan.

Because of inclement weather, the game was postponed and will be made up as part of a day/night doubleheader on Wednesday. The first game will begin at 1:35 p.m. with the nightcap scheduled for 7:10. Tickets for the postponed game can be used for Game 2.

Josh Beckett will work the matinee against the Mariners’ David Pauley, and Jon Lester will pitch the nightcap for the Red Sox against Seattle’s Felix Hernandez.

“At the minimum it’s a long day of baseball,” Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. “Hopefully it won’t be a real long day.”

But the forecast for Wednesday doesn’t look promising.

“The weather is what it is, so we’ll show up and play when they allow us,” Francona said.
