Report: Lucic to have hearing for match penalty

According to a report on TSN.ca, Milan Lucic will have a disciplinary hearing Sunday after receiving a match penalty in Thursday night’s game against the Atlanta Thrashers. He was given the penalty late in the third period when he hit Thrashers defenseman Freddy Meyer during a scrum when both players were being contained by the refs. The scrum was the result of a high hit by Meyers on Lucic that resulted in a large scrum and several fights.

Julien questioned Meyer's hit on Lucic after the game.

“That was a dirty hit,” Julien said. “I’ve looked at it again and it’s a cheap hit. Hopefully, it’s seen that way.”

While Julien and the Bruins clearly didn't like the hit, Thrashers coach Craig Ramsay didn't think there was anything wrong with it.

“Freddy laid a good hit,” Ramsay said. “That is what happens -- you throw a big hit and you have to have a fight. We are taking hitting out of the game. He gets a penalty for a good hit. They started all the fights and I thought we should have had a power play for the rest of the game, maybe a two-man advantage.”

After the game Lucic said he wasn’t worried about the consequences of the match penalty.

“I am not going to let a guy like him who never fights do something like that to me,” Lucic said of Meyer. “So, that’s basically it.”

The two teams play again next Thursday in Atlanta.
