Satan sent back to Boston with hand injury

SUNRISE, Fla -- Winger Miroslav Satan had to have stitches to fix a V-shaped cut in his palm and has returned to Boston, Bruins head coach Claude Julien confirmed Friday after practice at the BankAtlantic Center.

Julien clarified exactly how the injury occurred Thursday night in Tampa. Satan was not cut by a skate but instead the force of Steve Downie's hit slammed the butt end of Satan's stick into his palm and, in the coach's words, "it exploded."

Satan won't play Saturday against the Panthers and his status for the upcoming Olympics in Vancouver will be determined soon.

Milan Lucic and Shawn Thornton also misssed practice because of food poisoning. Their status for Saturday night's game against the Florida Panthers will be determined on game day. Steve Begin took a "maintenance day."
