Lowell, Mass. native Micky Ward, the decorated boxer who inspired the Academy Award-nominated film "The Fighter," will drop the ceremonial puck before the 7 p.m. Bruins-Red Wings game on Friday at TD Garden. He'll also join the NESN broadcast during the second intermission.
Ward, a local icon who won three New England Golden Gloves titles as an amateur before turning pro in 1985, retired with a 38-13 pro record. He won both the WBU Intercontinental Light Welterweight title and the WBU Light Welterweight title, and has gained renewed notoriety with the success of "The Fighter," starring Mark Wahlberg as Ward.
