UMass' Dima on All-MAC third team

With a 51-23 loss at Ohio this past Friday, the UMass Minutemen wrapped up their second consecutive 1-11 season. And though the record didn’t improve in Year 2 at the FBS level, there were a few highlights in 2013.

Anthony Dima was one of them.

On Wednesday, Dima was the Minutemen’s lone representative on the All-Mid-American Conference team. The 6-foot-7, 302-pound senior left tackle landed on the third team offense.

Dima was part of a UMass offensive line that allowed half as many sacks in 2013 (16) as it did in 2012 (32). The 16 sacks allowed tied for fifth best in the MAC in 2013.

UMass also improved its run game in Year 2 at the FBS level, going from 1,099 total rushing yards in 2012 to 1,502 total rushing yards in 2013. The Minutemen finished 10th in the MAC in rushing in 2013, up from 12th in 2012.

A native of Centereach, N.Y., Dima finished his UMass career with 31 starts in 34 games, including 11 starts in 2013. He’s deemed a borderline NFL draft prospect by Scouts Inc., with a grade of 30 and a rank of 46th at the offensive tackle position.
