The NFL released the preseason schedule on Thursday. Dates and times haven’t been announced, but here’s a first look at the opponents for the Buffalo Bills:
Week 1 (Aug. 11-15) vs. Indianapolis Colts
Star quarterback Andrew Luck will make his long-awaited return to the Colts after missing the final seven games of last season and nine games total with kidney and abdominal injuries. This also is a rematch of last year’s regular-season opener. Buffalo beat the Colts at home, 27-14, in that meeting. This is the eighth time these two teams will face off in the preseason.
Week 2 (Aug. 18-22) vs. New York Giants
These cross-state rivals will meet in the preseason for the second time in three years. The Bills and Giants last played in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, to kick off the 2014 preseason. The Giants will have a different look on defense after spending a lot of money in free agency to sign starting defensive end Olivier Vernon ($82 million) and cornerback Janoris Jenkins ($62.5 million) this offseason.
Week 3 (Aug. 25-28) at Washington Redskins
The most important game of the preseason will come on the road against a playoff team and reigning NFC East division champions from a year ago. Buffalo’s defense should get tested against the Redskins. They are led by quarterback Kirk Cousins, who exploded on the scene with a solid 2015 season. Look for both teams to play a majority of their starters for 2-3 quarters in this game.
Week 4 (Sept. 1-2) at Detroit Lions
The Bills wrap up their preseason on the road against the Lions. These two teams are very familiar with one another in the preseason considering this is their 36th meeting during the exhibition season. Do not expect much in this game from the starters on either side. But there most likely will be a few roster spots up for grabs in this final exhibition game.
