Injury update: Stewart remains doubtful

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Don't look for Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart to return for Sunday's regular-season finale at Atlanta as originally speculated.

Coach Ron Rivera said Stewart's rehabilitation for a knee sprain suffered three weeks ago at New Orleans was progressing, but that he would be listed as doubtful.

Wide receiver Steve Smith also remains doubtful after spraining the PCL in his left knee during Sunday's 17-13 victory over New Orleans. But Rivera isn't underestimating anything the five-time Pro Bowler might do because of his toughness and tenacity.

Rivera said he could see Smith "willing'' himself to play, even though he reiterated he wasn't counting on him for Atlanta.

The Panthers still haven't made the final decision on who will start for Smith, although all indications are it will be Ted Ginn Jr. The team likely will move Marvin McNutt up for depth.
