Newton fifth in final Pro Bowl fan vote

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton made a late surge to finish fifth in the fan voting for the NFL Pro Bowl team that will be announced Friday night at 9 ET.

Newton finished behind Denver's Peyton Manning, New Orleans' Drew Brees, Seattle's Russell Wilson and New England's Tom Brady with 526,934 votes.

He was ninth a week ago before leading Carolina to a last-minute 17-13 victory over New Orleans that wrapped up the team's first playoff appearance since 2008.

Here's how the rest of the Panthers finished in the voting:

Fullback: Mike Tolbert, first.

Tight end: Greg Olsen, 10th.

Center: Ryan Kalil, third.

Defensive end: Charles Johnson, ninth.

Middle linebacker: Luke Kuechly, second.

Free safety: Mike Mitchell, fourth.

Punt returner: Ted Ginn Jr., eighth.

Special teams: Jordan Senn, eighth.
