Bears terminate contract of OLB Sam Acho

The Chicago Bears terminated the contract of vested veteran outside linebacker Sam Acho because of an undisclosed illness and signed linebacker Lamin Barrow off the practice squad.

Bears head coach John Fox gave a vague answer when pressed about Acho’s condition on Friday. The outside linebacker has not practiced for over two weeks.

“There’s always concern about every player as it relates to any kind of injury or sickness,” Fox said. “I get fuzzy on what long-term is. We’re just trying to get him well. When he’s well, he’ll be out there.

“He’s been here. He was away for a minute just to get a little bit well. Well enough to leave your house. It’s like when you have the flu. But he’s getting better every day.”

A four-year veteran, Acho made 32 starts for the Arizona Cardinals before agreeing to a one-year deal with the Bears in April.

At the bare minimum, Acho figured to be a strong contributor for the Bears on special teams.

As for Barrow, the Denver Broncos drafted him in the fifth round in 2014 out of LSU. Chicago signed him to their practice squad on Sept. 7 after the Broncos cut him.
