A look at the Chicago Bears players who were “up” and those who were “down” in Sunday’s 18-17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
UP
Jay Cutler: Cutler led the Bears on a game-winning drive for the second consecutive week. Even without Alshon Jeffery or Eddie Royal, Cutler managed to pass for 252 yards and two touchdowns. Right tackle Kyle Long called it “a heroic effort” by the quarterback.
Matt Forte: The all-purpose back caught the game-winning touchdown from Cutler and finished with over 100 yards from scrimmage. Forte’s runs in the first half ate up the clock and prevented the Chiefs from putting the game out of reach.
Pernell McPhee: Not only did McPhee record his third sack of the year, he also blocked a crucial field goal that kept Chicago in the game. McPhee wore out Kansas City right tackle Eric Fisher the entire afternoon.
Robbie Gould: Gould became the Bears’ all-time leading scorer when he booted a 30-yard third-quarter field goal. Gould is a perfect 11-for-11 on the season.
DOWN
Martellus Bennett: The usually reliable Bennett had a rough game. He dropped a critical pass on the game’s final drive. Bennett was targeted 11 times but managed to only catch four balls for 32 yards.
Tracy Porter: Porter took a bad angle and couldn't contain De'Anthony Thomas’ 19-yard touchdown reception. Porter did respond later in the game with an important pass breakup.
Shea McClellin: McClellin was enjoying a fine afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium until he suffered a knee injury. The Bears had to cart McClellin back to the locker room, which is likely to derail his promising season.
