BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- Bears coach Lovie Smith declined to go into specifics, but said there’s a chance some of the starters could play up to an entire half Saturday, when the club opens the preseason at San Diego.
Based on Smith’s remarks, it appears the Bears will take a wait-and-see approach to divvying up playing time.
“I know you guys always want to know play time,” Smith said. “We’re going to get into the first quarter and see how many plays we have. We could let some of the guys go a little bit longer than we normally do, maybe to the half or something like that. Different positions will do different things. I’m not going to get into the details of all that.”
Smith also stressed that the matchup against the Chargers won’t win anyone a starting position right away.
“I wouldn’t say anyone would win a job this coming weekend, but at least we can start legitimately putting together a depth chart.”
