Hayden is no stranger to the Bears. He made an official visit to the Bears last summer, but did not end up signing a contract. According to a league source, the Bears took a pass on Hayden last year due to health concerns stemming from a neck injury that forced the University of Illinois product to miss the final four games of the 2010 regular season when he was a member of the Indianapolis Colts.
The cornerback eventually landed with Atlanta where he appeared in eight games, starting one.
Hayden spent his first six years in the league in Indianapolis, so he is extremely familiar with the Cover-2 defense.
The Bears re-signed free agent cornerback Tim Jennings on Tuesday to a two-year deal, but fellow corners Zack Bowman and Corey Graham are also unrestricted free agents, meaning the Bears have room to add another veteran or rookie to the mix.
