Bears pull Urlacher in third quarter

CHICAGO -- Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith decided to pull middle linebacker Brian Urlacher out of the game early in the third quarter with his club in front 34-14 over the Indianapolis Colts.

Urlacher started the game and played every defensive snap despite missing nearly the entire preseason after he re-injured his left knee early in training camp. The veteran practiced on Wednesday and Friday and was listed as probable on the official injury report.

The Bears have plenty of motivation to rest Urlacher as the Bears has a quick-turnaround in Week 2 when they travel to face the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night.

Nick Roach replaced Brian Urlacher in the middle while Geno Hayes entered the game at strong side linebacker for much of the second half.
