Second-period wrap: Hawks 1, Rangers 1

NEW YORK -- The Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers remain tied 1-1 after the second period.

It’s the same tie game as after the opening 20 minutes, underscoring how even the contest has been. Scoring chances and shots on goal were very similar in the first two periods, with the game featuring both physical play and an up-tempo style.

The Hawks have been on the receiving end of several punishing checks, including one on Troy Brouwer by Ryan Callahan just as Brouwer was about to wind up in the slot. The Rangers have been credited with 28 hits compared to just 13 for the Hawks.

Ryan Potulny left the game briefly after taking a puck in the face on a shot attempt from the point.

The Hawks have 21 shots on goal while the Rangers have 17. New York will begin the third period on the power play as Duncan Keith took a hooking penalty with just seconds remaining in the period.
