Not long after the Hawks failed to score on back-to-back power plays, the Avalanche were able to tally off a rush by Greg Mauldin.
The power plays generated some chances early, the Hawks even had 10 seconds of five-on-three time but nothing came of it. Later, Mauldin came down the left wing and fired one past Corey Crawford for his fifth of the season.
The Hawks can’t complain about the rubber they put towards Avalanche goaltender Craig Anderson. They had 14 shots on net to just six for Colorado.
Anderson didn’t give much in the way of rebounds so the Hawks were left off the board in the first 20 minutes.
