The Hawks hoped to get off to a faster start than their previous two games but they didn’t manage it. Ottawa controlled the play early in the period, while the Hawks took a good portion of the first 10 minutes to get their first shot on goal.
The Hawks played better in the latter half and were only outshot 11-8 in the period. The Senators owned the majority of scoring chances but couldn’t get one by Corey Crawford.
Ottawa will begin the second period on the power play after Duncan Keith took a late holding penalty, the lone infraction of the period.
